Well, maybe not from a revenue perspective yet, but we thought that we would use this catchy title to grab your attention and let you knowthat we passed 10,000 House Plans Downloads last week (now at 10,313 to be exact). First, we would like to thank you our users for helping us reach this great milestone. We are so glad that we could provide designs, dreams, and solutions to so many of you. That said now for some fun facts around this feat:
Recently we have learned from a large competitor (no names of course) that house plan sales have been down 50% to 70% in 2008 (no surprise there). Knowing that in 2006 (a good year) the largest house plan companies sold about 20,000 house plans a year, this means that at best in 2008 they will sell 10,000 house plans. FreeGreen just downloaded 10,000 house plans between April and October of 2008. That said, it is not crazy to say that we now download or distribute more house plans than anyone else in America. How's that for changing the world in 7 months.
For 2008 the projected number of new homes built is about 400,000. If all of our downloaded plans were used to build homes (which would never happen) then we would be affecting about 2.5% of the housing market.
If all 10,000 plans were used to build homes we would have created the designs for as many homes, as the 40th largest production builder built in 2006
Again thanks so much for your support along the way and we now look forward to our 100,000th download. In the meantime we will be starting to collect images of the homes being built from our work in 2009 (more on this via the newsletter and blog). Also in a week we plan to have our first blog entry out explaining our new Open Source Program which will be going live in December of this year. Stay tuned....
